Last night, Barneys New York kicked off World Pride with a downtown celebration drawing luminaries from the city’s LGBTQ+ community. Featuring digital illustrations and Pride rainbow-splashed doughnuts, cocktails, and cotton candy, the main floor of the Chelsea flagship transformed into a fantasy playground with music provided by DJ Vito Fun.
Done in collaboration with HBO’s new documentary Wig, which chronicles the original formation and recent revival of the legendary drag festival Wigstock and its founder Lady Bunny, as well as New York’s LGBT Community Center, the event highlighted a wide, diverse spectrum of queer representation. Before entering, guests were treated to a colorful window display featuring original painted portraits by multimedia artist Cody Critcheloe and the official Wig film trailer. Once inside, honorable attendees included the film’s director, Chris Moukarbel; stars from the film Charlene Incarnate, Kevin Aviance, and Bobbie Hondo; Barneys CEO Daniella Vitale and Creative Director Matthew Mazzucca; and The Center’s Timothy Chow.
