It was a week of rain and gray skies, but that didn’t put a damper on NYFW. From bright tie-dye at R13 and Proenza to the bold use of color at Prabal and Sies Marjan, the warmth and ease of spring certainly came through the SS19 collections. “I love New York Fashion Week,” says Barneys’ Fashion Director, Marina Larroudé. “This season felt a little quieter. There’s definitely a shift in the fashion calendar, with heavyweights like Alexander Wang, The Row, and Narciso choosing to show pre-collections instead. Of course, there was still no shortage of excitement, like the buzz around Area and the return of Proenza to the city.” Scroll on as Larroudé narrows down some of the top moments from the week.

THE NEW COOL-GIRL WARDROBE
Area showed again at a Lower East Side public school, this time on the roof. It may have been raining, but it still felt entirely like the Saturday night that it was. The buzzy new line is redefining the modern girl’s going-out wardrobe. Think crystal tees, bejeweled fringe, and hot-pink blush. Sporty, sexy, and sophisticated never gelled so well.

Beautiful models from more than 30 countries walked in the Prabal Gurung show, which included men for the first time this season. The collection itself was just as diverse, with a bold and bright color palette and effortless, sporty pieces that felt light and precise.

Raf Simons channeled classic American films for his Calvin Klein SS19 collection—Jaws and The Graduate, specifically. We loved the way the themes played out humorously in the collection, especially the soon-to-be must-have Jaws/cK logo tee, which worked well alongside plenty of immaculate tailoring.

Now in its fifth season, Sies Marjan continues to lead with harmonious color. We spotted our #BNYHighLife partner, Aleali May, at the show wearing the designer head-to-toe and immediately added that perfect-shade-of-pink trench to our wish list.

IT RAINED…AND RAINED
If there’s one thing fashion people like to talk about more than clothes, it’s the weather. NYFW was pretty much a constant, humid drizzle, and everyone commiserated. The good news? It was the perfect conditions for debuting a new-season trench coat, like Marina below.

PROENZA’S BACK IN TOWN
Proenza Schouler is back on the NYFW calendar and brought some distinctly Americana vibes along with them. Tie-dye, patchwork, and macramé were incorporated with luxe sophistication.
