Today is the worldwide launch of Maison Margiela’s latest fragrance, Mutiny, which Barneys will carry exclusively. “This is a big moment, as it’s the first fragrance developed directly by the house’s creative director, John Galliano,” says Barneys’ SVP/DMM of Cosmetics, Jennifer Miles.
Mutiny is an embodiment of nonconformity, creativity, and diversity—a great, modern message that aligns with Barneys’ own values, says Miles. The sleek glass bottle, tinted in gold, is symbolic of the subversion and deconstruction often seen in Maison Margiela’s collections, and is also a reflection of authenticity and transformation. Mutiny speaks to new ideas about self-expression and the freedom to break away from old views on identity. In the spirit of the fragrance, the Maison Marigela team tapped six “mutinists” for the campaign who embrace these ideals in their own unique ways. Willow Smith, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Teddy Quinlivan, Sasha Lane, Princess Nokia, and Molly Bair were chosen to represent the perfume.
For this creation, the scent of tuberose, often associated with femininity, was deconstructed to deliver powerful and different notes. Master perfumer Dominique Ropion collaborated with John Galliano to express the fragrance in a contemporary way, with notes of leather accord, saffron, citrus, and vanilla also present. The Mutiny fragrance is exclusive to Barneys New York and available in a 50ml or 90ml bottle. Discover more about this multifaceted launch by shopping Maison Margiela today on Barneys.com.
