With over 100K followers on Instagram, illustrator Ivan Wong is leading the charge on Barneys Instagram this week with clever image creations to kick off Fashion Month’s four-week stint. The New Jersey native, best known for his skyscraping, feet-dangling imagery, took each fashion capital—New York, London, Milan, and Paris—and meshed it seamlessly with this season’s most head-turning looks. The outcome was out of this fashion world.
While Ivan shared that the outreach from Barneys came as a bit of a surprise, our Social Media editors at Barneys have had the artist on their radar for some time. “My work is very moody or gritty most of the time,” Wong expressed. “After speaking with the team at Barneys, I realized my creative composites would be a striking way to showcase the fashion designers they carry.”
Playing off the popularity of the yellow cab, Wong’s first illustration features New York City with a larger than life arm clad in a CALVIN KLEIN 205W39NYC coat dangling an Alexander Wang bucket bag over mini taxis. Ivan revealed that he had to take about 500 shots of taxis and ended up using only 100 when creating this image. “Composing takes a few days and I have to load 17GB of layers into Photoshop,” he explained. “This time does not include me saving imagery and making changes as well.” While Ivan’s process for @BarneysNY’s mini masterpieces wasn’t that different from others he has created, he expressed that “it was fun to create more point-of-view photos, focusing on fashion.” While Ivan will be adding Barneys to his roster of companies he is thrilled to create for, we will be anxiously awaiting what he will have up his sleeve for London, Milan, and Paris.
