It’s easy to spot Young-Su Kim around the Barneys buying office—his inherently cool taste translates into fashion-forward ensembles that are anything but shy. Whether he’s embracing mixed prints or an oversized silhouette, he always manages to keep things sophisticated with his thoughtful approach to accessories and styling. Below, he shows us that summer style doesn’t have to play it safe as he breaks down his go-to looks of the moment.
“It may be nearly summer, but if you’re like me and enjoy escaping the city on the weekends, there are certain staples that come in handy year round. A camo jacket and Sorrel boots are my go-tos because they have the edgy, urban feel I gravitate toward but are also useful for various activities and weather scenarios when traveling upstate. A cashmere scarf/blanket is another year-round staple, and you can’t do better than Elder Statesman‘s laid-back decadence.”
DRESSY, NOT FUSSY
“Even when putting together a more formal look, I never like my clothes to feel uptight. I lean heavily on black, but opt for relaxed fabrics like linen—used here for both the Haider Ackermann pants and the Greg Lauren shirt—to create an overall feeling of comfort and ease. With such dark clothing, accessories and details need to contrast, which is why I love the 18k gold embroidery on the pants and the Saint Laurent brown suede boots.”
“This season, Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent led the pack in a ‘90s resurgence that leaned toward a youthful California, alt-rock vibe. This look really works for me because I love to mix things up. You’ll find me pairing iconic pieces like the punkish moto jacket with grungy, laidback staples in plaid and tie dye. Attention to fit and nuanced details keep this look feeling elevated and current. Frédéric Malle’s sophisticated take on patchouli, Monsieur, is the perfect finishing touch for this vibe.”
