New year, new you—right?
Nothing says “fresh start” like switching up your fragrance, and we have oh-so many from which to choose. Looking for a little guidance? Let us steer you in the direction of our five favorites, introduced to Barneys this year.
Creative mastermind Olivia Bransbourg originally conceived the Attache Moi fragrance as a gift to readers in celebration of her new and delightfully eccentric magazine, ICONO-fly. However, the fragrance—equally floral and woody—became a phenomenon in its own right, and Bransbourg has recently launched a second scent to keep up with demand. It’s called Attache Moi 55, in homage to Manhattan’s 55th Street.

With each unisex scent, Arquiste’s founder Carlos Huber ambitiously sets out to recreate specific moments in time. Flor y Canto, for example, harkens back to the year 1400 and “celebrates the smells of an Aztec festival.” Aleksandr, on the other hand, is inspired by a “frigid winter afternoon in St. Petersburg” and features neroli, fir balsam, Russian leather and ambrette. This is just the kind of romance we look for in a fragrance.

Technically speaking, we introduced RXR Profumo at the end of 2012, but the launch of two new scents—Tantrum and Enigma—earned this collection a spot on our love-it list. Like Arquiste, the RXR collection is transportive, and we can never turn down a trip to 1960s London or majestic, modern-day Dubai.

It’s hard not to fall in love with the story of Hylnds, the creative of a charming husband-and-wife duo based in Brooklyn, but one whiff of any of their meticulously researched fragrances will seal the deal. Bitter Rose, Broken Spear is particularly memorable. Our advice? Add it to your wish list now!

Anywhere Greg Lauren goes, we follow. So how could we resist the temptation of partnering with him on his first-ever fragrance? Created alongside master perfumer Ralf Schwieger, this is the kind of scent that solicits compliments from perfect strangers. And it’s packaged in a one-of-a-kind bottle to boot.
