“There’s pretty much nowhere in the world that I won’t go,” proclaims designer Caroline Weller of sustainable luxury lifestyle brand Banjanan. The name Banjanan itself means ‘gypsy’ in Hindi—quite fitting for the curious, effervescent woman behind the collection. One peek at the video above and you too will fall in love with Jaipur, the city that kept Weller a wanderer by nature, grounded—for a moment—by its local artisans rooted in ancient applied textile techniques.
Caroline already had an impressive resume as a fashion designer for houses such as Calvin Klein and Armani before landing in the Northern Indian city and launching her own brand. She combines her know-how of wear and fabric (silks, Indian cottons, and other natural knits and wovens) with the expertise of local craftsmen. The result is a collection of masterful hand-blocked prints and embroideries in silhouettes that float over the form like a wispy made-for-you layer. “It’s the traditional and the new, the expected and the unexpected,” that makes this collaborative collection of “modern heirlooms” ones we can’t wait to wear.
