As a London transplant living in New York City (and occasionally escaping to her house in the Caribbean), blogger Karen Blanchard has amassed a unique cross-cultural closet, into which she gives readers a peek on her blog Where Did U Get That. (The name comes from her penchant for stopping stylish passersby on the street to demand, “Where did you get that!?” if something they’re wearing strikes her fancy.) Below, Karen shares her top picks for Spring and the best spot for vintage finds in London.

What inspired you to start Where Did U Get That?
Two things: I have always loved playing with looks and asking people where they got something I loved, and so I decided to blog about both. I also started the site to escape my then 9 to 5, which I hated.

How has your personal style evolved in the last few years?
I think I’m still evolving. I love bouncing between looks that are edgy or a bit retro, especially drawing from the sixties and seventies. I continue to play around with different styles but with an eye on stopping the OMG-what-was-I-thinking outfits.

Who are your current fashion muses?
Kate Moss has been a fave since leaving London years ago. I also get inspired by the hundreds of stylish unknowns that walk the streets of New York, especially around the East or West Village and Brooklyn.

What do miss most about London? And least?
I miss the old street markets for buying vintage clothes. I know Spitalfields has a great vintage section that I have to check out again the next time I return. I do miss a good saveloy and chips from the local chip shop! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The thing I miss the least is the cost of travel around the city.  London has the most expensive public transportation prices in the world! I know it’s not cheap in New York, but its a lot less than in London where the cost of living is super high.

What’s the best style advice you’ve ever received ?
If you have to convince yourself to like it, don’t buy it.

If you were “accidentally” locked in Barneys overnight, what would we find you wearing in the morning?
These amaaaaaazing Prada loafers with gold hardware:

And a classic Balenciaga in year-round white:

I love a good jumpsuit and I’d definitely be walking around in this Haider Ackermann one:

Headed to St. Lucia (or thereabouts) this winter? Shop the Barneys New York  swimwear collection.
