“I’ve always been fascinated by the duality of women’s souls—sweetness and audacity, innocence and sensuality, grace and determination,” says Lorenzo Serafini. The Philosophy creative director welcomed us to his Milan showroom to take us through the Fall 2017 collection and speak candidly about his dive into the ultra-feminine side of the female persona. In his point of view, femininity comes with an air of power and confidence. There’re no shrinking violets in this woman’s world.

The collection is described as, “Liz Taylor in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof meets the Mods.”

Seeing us gravitate curiously to an angora sweater embroidered with the name “Liz,” he shared that his latest collection for Philosophy imagines a young Liz Taylor who meets up with the rebellious spirit of the Mods. “It’s my celebration of the female’s power of seduction and her independence. An unexpected contrast between timeless elegance with a modernist twist.”

The effeminate silhouettes of cinched waist, bustiers, and full skirts played against cheeky tom-boyish cropped trousers and rubber-coated silk jackets. Tulle dresses embellished with Swarovski crystals glittered in a twist of the hanger as Serafini showed off a few of the standout cocktail numbers. It was a textural feast not only for the eyes, but was also pleasant to the touch—something we beckon you to see for yourself in a few months when the collection hits the racks at Barneys New York. For now, get a glimpse of what’s to come: a soft and seductive collection, which this creative director explains, could be your greatest sartorial weapon.
