New York has always been a source of inspiration for me, beginning when I was in school at NYU. In college, I was surrounded by people who were all really ambitious and I thought, How great would it be to create a hub of discovery to feature all this emerging talent? I saw a void in the media industry at the time and wanted to create a place for stories on local boutiques, restaurants, and recommendations—that’s when I founded my editorial site, Friend Of A Friend. All my friends came together to contribute content about places we loved in a city that felt so new. It’s now been three years since launch, and I’m thrilled to be starting a newsletter for the platform later this year.
Right now, it’s Fashion Week, so my schedule is very busy, but it’s all fun and exciting. Every day is different: This morning, for instance, I’m shooting at the beautiful 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge and then have a few shows, dinners, and events later on. There’s a great energy when everyone’s in town together, especially because we can all connect for future projects.
I love the fashion industry because of the people. Now is a time of great change, too, as social media is lifting the curtain up on an industry that once felt super exclusive. The digital space feels very supportive, and I’ve loved watching my editor friends grow their own followings and be able to tell their stories in a unique way. Influencers can creatively collaborate with brands and together they can build a community. I’m grateful to be a part of it.
I grew up in Los Angeles, and because of that my personal style is an East Coast–West Coast mix. New York brings a really elevated, daring, and refined street-style vibe, but my California roots lead me towards a more relaxed aesthetic. You’ll always see me in something that makes a statement, yet it needs to be comfortable because I’m always on the go in New York.
On that comfort note, I’ve built an amazing collection of sneakers. I’m a maximalist when it comes to accessories, as that’s where you can truly see someone’s style come through. I loved wearing the bold white Barneys New York boots with the Versace dress because it shows off my edgy side, and then the Chloé sneakers paired with pants and a turtleneck would be an everyday look. In each of these outfits, the shoes are really doing all the talking. To me, an amazing shoe really accentuates the outfit, and for that reason I’ll always keep experimenting with new styles, no matter what.
