Anthony Thomas Melillo launched his namesake line in 2012 with the intention of offering men and women a relaxed wardrobe essential in the form of “the perfect T-shirt.” While the brand has grown beyond the tee, the staple piece has always remained at the core of his sumptuous collections of elevated basics. Inspired by his 2-year-old son, Max (pictured), Melillo has finally introduced a selection of kids’ versions, now available at Barneys.
While the kids’ line was never part of the plan, having a son organically led Melillo there as a next step. “I started making pieces for Max when he was about 1-year-old because I figured he should have ATM T-shirts—they’re just so soft it makes sense,” explains Melillo. “I simply took the bodies of the popular adult style and shrank it down to children’s size.”
Before long, fellow parents were asking where they could get the adorable, soft shirts, and it became a “no-brainer” to launch a kids’ line. The unisex pieces, which are all prewashed and pre-shrunk, are all children’s version of his most popular adult styles, down to the same fits and dyes. The relaxed silhouettes means that you can size up and the pieces look great as they’re grown into, and they’re cute and comfy every step of the way. Just ask Max.
