Newness and excitement swirled around Joseph Altuzarra’s Fall 2015 runway collection—a refined showing that drew inspiration from two disparate groups both known for their love of dressing up: 18th century dandies and Truman Capote’s bevy of “swans” like Gloria Guinness, Babe Paley, and Slim Keith. But even with the buzz, one element managed to stand out and draw the eyes of buyers and editors alike. We’re speaking, of course, of his handbags, which made their debut on the runway last spring and are performing an encore exclusively at Barneys this fall.
Drawing from his renowned polished and refined point of view, Altuzarra bags meld seamlessly with the lady-like ready-to-wear for which the designer has become known. But it wouldn’t be Altuzarra without a bit of a twist, and with the bags, the unexpected surprise comes in the form of intricate leather braiding originally developed for bull riding ropes in the American West. Watch the video above to learn more about this unique inspiration and scroll on for a closer look at the bags before heading to Barneys to snag one for yourself.
