Call them the Oscars of fashion, if you will—the annual Council of Fashion Designers of America Fashion Awards are just as hotly competitive and coveted. The organization has just released the nominees for the 2017 Awards, which will be present June 5 at the Hammerstein Ballroom here in New York. While there are some familiar names on the list—we’re looking at you, The Row, which might as well be the Meryl Streep of these awards—there are also some first-time nominees this year that we couldn’t be happy to include in the Barneys family.
The up-and-coming designers aren’t the only new things going on with the awards this year. This year’s Awards feature a unified Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent that applies to womenswear, menswear and accessory design—these have each been separate categories in the past—as well as a new Swarovski Award for Positive Change, which honors an individual in the U.S. fashion industry who has made a positive impact on American communities and is being presented to Kenneth Cole as its inaugural recipient.
