Montreal-based Zoe and Zach Claman DeMelo were raised in both the fashion and racing worlds. From an early age, they were immersed in the prominent Canadian fashion distribution company owned by their parents and spent weekends at the racetrack with their dad. Zach has gone on to become the youngest driver in the Indycar development program, and Zoe knew there was a way to make it all come together.

“We decided that we wanted do something in the designer sportswear realm and relate it to the world of racing, since that’s such a part of our family,” says Zoe. She explains that while surfing and skateboarding have their token shoes, racing was missing its own chic footwear. “Since my brother is a racecar driver, we’re always at the tracks. I always see people like Kendall Jenner, Bella, and Gigi there. They always look great, and they’re always in a sneaker. We knew we wanted to tap into this world—what you wear to the track and then to the after party.”

They launched ZCD Montreal in 2013, and it quickly built a reputation among those cool-girls at the tracks. “We spend a lot of time in the Italian factories dissecting the shoes, making sure they aren’t just gorgeous, but also comfortable,” assures Zoe, who counts the snakeskin Schumy as her favorite style.
