When Yohji Yamamoto and adidas came together in 2002 to form Y-3, their design-savvy, elevated approach to activewear paved the way for the world of modern, “athleisure” dressing. Now with the new line Y-3 Sport, making its official global launch today, the two innovators take the concept a step further, presenting a capsule collection of bold yet highly functional performance wear, intended for a truly active city lifestyle.
“It’s something we have talked about for a long time, together with Yohji and his team. The idea of bringing Y-3 into the arena of sport was something that we often considered or discussed as an exciting challenge for the brand,” explains Y-3 Senior Design Director Lawrence Midwood. “From the first creative discussions, we knew we wanted to design and manufacture to the highest level of performance wear possible for the consumer we have today at Y-3. We felt there was a clear opportunity to provide something different for him or her.”
While the urban-inspired, mostly black collection of menswear will look right at home among the ready-to-wear at Barneys, it offers a level of groundbreaking innovation rarely seen in most fashion-conscious activewear. Key fabrics include ultra-lightweight adizero fabric made for cycling, ClimaLite jersey that offers quick drying moisture management, and Techfit, which reduces muscle oscillation, energy loss, and fatigue. And Y-3 Sport’s take on the BOOST sneaker features groundbreaking BOOST cushioning technology with sleek, sporty design. Whatever your level of activity, the innovative yet refined collection is sure to become a wardrobe staple.
