Frédéric Malle has often described himself as a publisher of perfumes, because he regularly enlists today’s best “noses” to produce boundary-pushing scents for his line, Editions de Parfums. Now, however, Malle can add published author to the list as well. His new book, “On Perfume Making,” offers a fascinating glimpse into the mysterious art of perfume making, featuring illustrations by artist Konstanin Kakanias and a foreword by the one and only Catherine Deneuve. Here he chats about his new book and the power of scent.
