UNICEF’s Snowflake Ball Kicks Off the Season of Giving

To kick off the holiday season, Barneys New York is taking the saying “‘it’s better to give than receive” to heart.

Tonight you’ll find us at UNICEF’s annual Snowflake Ball, a black-tie gala that has raised more than $16 million to help save children’s lives since 2005. Not only is Barneys New York a sponsor, but our very own Daniella Vitale, who has a long history with UNICEF and has even traveled to Ethiopia and Malawi with the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, is one of the two gala co-chairs. Barneys’ Charlotte Blechman, meanwhile, joins Charlotte Moss, Téa Leoni and more on the gala committee.

In addition to raising money for UNICEF’s programs, which provide humanitarian aid and emergency relief to children worldwide, the event will celebrate the lighting of the famous UNICEF snowflake hanging above 57th Street and Fifth Avenue in New York. (Fun fact: that snowflake contains 16,000 crystal prisms  and weighs more than 3,300 pounds.) Host committee members like Sarah Jessica Parker, Michael Douglas and Vanessa Redgrave will join in the revelry tonight and be treated to performances by Tony Bennett and the Wynton Marsalis Quintet. Make sure to check back tomorrow for the post-party recap!
