Earlier this month, Leora Elituv packed a suitcase full of her Kisuii swimwear and coverups and headed to Tulum to celebrate her friend’s 30th birthday. “We were looking for a place with beautiful beaches and lots to explore,” explains Elituv of the choice to visit Tulum. “Somewhere that uniquely combines the jungle with clear blue waters and white sand beaches, plus a town full of energy and historical spots like the Mayan Ruins—it’s all too good to be true, and that’s Tulum!”

Over the course of a week, Elituv and her friends relaxed and reenergized in the calming surroundings of the beach and jungle, did yoga, biked, ate amazing meals, and explored the historical sites. Here, she shares her highlights.

“We stayed at the Nomade Hotel, which is located at the very southern tip of Tulum. It is a relatively new eco-chic hotel that feels like you are in the jungle, but at the beach.”

“The hotel has salt water showers and communal tents for ceremonies, and it just feels magical.”

“My cabana opened directly onto a white sand beach, steps away from the pristine, clear blue ocean.”

“From my hammock on my porch, I could hear the nearby DJ while watching the sun set over the water.”

“Here I am in a communal area. The hotel incorporates Moroccan design with ottomans as seating, metallic embossed low tables, and vibrant rugs.”

“The food is also incredible, especially the guacamole and grouper a la plancha”

“A morning at the beach.”

“There’s lots of great little shops in Tulum, and my favorite is Wildsea Boutique. Homey and romantic in aesthetic, the store features a beautifully curated collection of jewelry, beauty products, blankets, towels, swimwear, and resortwear.”

“One night we visited Habitas, a new accommodation experience that opened last month. It felt like entering the wilderness. There is only one type of accommodation offered at this resort—canvas tents with natural palapa roofs—which are situated on the jungle floor alongside the beach.”

“We celebrated my friend’s birthday with a white-themed party. It started off with a sunset jaguar blood meditation session in the courtyard, where we sat in a circle on carpets.”

“The ceremony included relaxing breathing techniques, self-reflection, and zeroed in our intentions for our selves, our group, and the birthday girl. It was especially meaningful as we were a collection of best friends. The ceremony concluded with a sacred red wine-based drink with Mexican incense.”

“Our night continued with drinks at the beach-side bar, followed by a lovely dinner with a traditional Mexican menu. Then, we went to the courtyard for a private concert. Eduardo Castillo, the owner of the hotel, performed live, and we danced under the stars.”

“Habitas really promotes an experience that involves all the senses.”

“A dip in a fresh water cenote is the perfect way to refresh and recover from the night before. There are thousands of cenotes in the region, and this is one that we stumbled upon.”

“Laguna Kaan Luum is an incredible fresh water lagoon. There’s a dock where you can spend the day relaxing and swimming.”

“I visited Yaan Wellness Energy Healing Spa, one of the most incredible and relaxing spas I have ever been to. I had a wonderful experience with their healing waters circuit, which consists of a cycle of sauna, Hamam (with a special scrub), followed by hot and then cold massage pools. The spa uses purified cenote waters in a way that cleanses, detoxifies, and relaxes the body.”

“The Papaya Playa Project is the best place to go for sundown drinks.”

“That’s a wrap on an incredible week in Tulum!”
