Your favorite jeans are getting an update that goes way beyond skinny. This fall’s denim brings with it all the comfort and ease of your broken-in faves, but with a twist that’s anything but traditional—new silhouettes offer wide legs, flattering flares, and tailored details that will have you rethinking your go-to looks. Fortunately, Senior Fashion director Tomoko Ogura is here to decode the denim trends and offer tips on how to style fall’s fresh shapes.
“Our go-to denim collections are bringing new life to classic silhouettes this season,” Ogura told us. “Denim has become a thoughtful part of the everyday look, and whether you’re headed to the office or out for a casual Fall Saturday, denim is an easy foundation on which you can build your outfit. It’s best to invest in a few quality styles that are versatile, but always chic.”

The Polished Flare
“Don’t be afraid of the flare. This season, J Brand is reintroducing Love Story, one of their most coveted flare styles, as Another Love Story. A slim-to-wide silhouette is flattering on any figure, as it accentuates a smaller waist and elongates the leg. This J Brand style, with its midrise, is the perfect cut to tuck in any blouse or sweater. For a more tailored look, polish off the denim with an Isabel Marant blazer—it makes a great Fall look for the office.”
The Straight Leg
“This straight-leg jean is so perfect that you’ll want in both black and blue. In the black here, it’s a comfortable alternative to a trouser and can easily take you from day to night. Versatile and effortless, this style will pair well with any top you have in your closet. I’ve paired them here with some amazing Margiela boots, a Paco Rabanne shell and a Tomorrowland blazer—a polished look for an after-work meeting.”
The Slim Boyfriend
“Current/Elliott has a loyal following for their boyfriend jean, but this “Fling” style is a touch slimmer and longer through the leg, making room for just the right amount of a slouch. I love the slight fade wash and sandblasted details, which make the denim look more lived-in. If you’re looking to dress these up a bit, throw them on under a crisp, sharp tunic and leather vest, as I did here, to easily elevate the look. This length works as-is or rolled up and is perfect to show off your newest Fall pumps.”
The Wide-Leg Crop
“The Simon Miller cropped wide-leg silhouette in two-tone denim feels distinctly modern. The hand of the denim is a bit more gutsy and adds a little drama to this style. Here, it’s paired with a knit polo and a cognac leather motorcycle jacket—classic staples that elevate the denim. The warm colors harmonize well with the tones of the denim, and the cropped length allows my new Marni boots to shine.”
The Relaxed Flare
“The relaxed vibe of the R13 denim grounds the feminine details of this Valentino blouse. Fitted around the hips with a loose leg, this silhouette is flattering and cool. I’m drawn to the distressed look of these jeans, as it makes for a chic contrast when paired with more formal pieces. Pair these with a lifted brogue, like the Pierre Hardy ones shown here, for an instant boost.”
