I’ve always been an advocate of sweatshirts. I wore them with pleasure during ballet and sports warm ups throughout high school, then later as part of my collegiate uniform, and now because they remain comfortable. Though casual, the style can still be fashionable, as Norma Kamali demonstrated in the early ’80s with her iconic collection.
Over the weekend (and even during the week) I often dress in sweatshirts, so I was particularly thrilled to see a nice offering from various designers this fall. When the sweatshirt—whether a classic terry or a sweater with only the signature triangle detail at the neckline—is paired with something more refined, the result is both effortless and pulled together. Lucky for the sweatshirt-lover, the style continues to emerge on the Spring 2013 runways. Here are a few of my favorite looks from the recent New York Fashion Week.
