Sheer Genius: Show A Touch of Skin in Spring’s Transparent Pieces

When it comes to style, there’s something particularly seductive about that halfway point between covering up and showing off—a premise that designers from Nina Ricci to Alexander Wang embraced wholeheartedly for spring.

Whether rendered graphically in black and white a la Wang or in romantic florals like Helmut Lang and Erdem, fabrics that reveal just a hint of skin are decidedly of the moment. The effect is not meant to be over-the-top though. As Barneys New York Fashion Director Tomoko Ogura put it after taking in the spring shows: “Sheer materials like silk chiffon, organza and mousseline made for transparent looks that felt more refined than overtly sexy.”

Below, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite new styles featuring barely-there fabrics.
