Set Your Sights On Barneys New York Eyewear

We blame it on Liz Lemon. Ok, sunglasses have always been cool, but when even reading glasses (reading glasses!) started earning style cred, we knew it was time for our Barneys New York private label to design some specs we wouldn’t think twice about pairing with a Lanvin dress or Roberto Marroni earrings.

Et voilà: Feast your eyes on these beauties—five styles ranging from face-flattering shades for summer beach-bumming to specs that complement your reading repertoire—all produced by Barton Perreira and named after the lucky ladies on our accessories team. Below, see what each “muse” has to say about her namesake pair…

“Initially, I was alarmed that Barton Perreira named a pair of readers after me. It just confirmed what I had been feeling—old (and blind). I was dismayed that I no longer evoked a glamorous image
(I had envisioned a chic pair of big, round, tortoise sunglasses). But the truth is, I need the glasses—it’s of no use to anyone if I cannot actually see anything—and I’ll admit it: I absolutely love them. They are chic, elegant and, of course, functional. If I look good in these, maybe they will have mercy on me next year and put my name on a cool pair of sunglasses.”

- Daniella Vitale, Chief Merchant, Executive Vice President

“This frame is timeless and classic. It reminds me of my two favorite genres—New Wave cinema from the ’60s and music from the early ’80s. Perfect urban-warrior gear for daily dog runs and weekend day-tripping. This summer, I’ll be wearing the dark tortoise Sarah with an evergreen lens, listening to my requisite Clash on the way to Shelter Island.”

- Sarah Blair, Vice President and DMM, Women’s Accessories

“I’ve never had a pair of namesake sunglasses. I finally know what it must feel like to be a muse! The Gretta is such a wearable frame, made edgy with geometric lines. Navy is my color choice: on trend with people in the know, understated cool out in the real world. Their shape makes them perfect for both the city and beach—my two favorite places. No need to wait for Memorial Day to sport them!”

- Gretta Van Leuven, Senior Buyer, Fine Jewelry

“I must say, I take my sunglasses very seriously—I guess it was inevitable that I became a sunglass buyer! I am always looking for full coverage to keep any and all squinting at bay. So the oversized Alyson style with wider temples is puurrrrfect for me. I’ll definitely be sporting the chic speckled tort color with espresso lenses on bright sunny mornings after those late summer nights—iced coffee in hand.”

- Alyson Scholz, Buyer, Women’s Accessories

“When I first found out I would have readers named after me, it was hard to picture because I don’t even use them! But then I thought, I love the idea of replacing the reader lens with glass to add a fresh accessory to my spring wardrobe. I think they are so chic in navy and a great substitute for black. In the end, I’m so happy with my namesake specs and will be sporting them all summer long.”
