By now, you should know that Barneys New York has a beautiful, brand-new shoe floor at our Madison Avenue flagship store. (And if you don’t know, what are you waiting for? Go! Debra Messing has already given it her stamp of approval.) Last night on the fifth floor, friends of Barneys gathered to do a little shopping with a fête headlined by Sergio Rossi’s resident shoe genius, creative director Francesco Russo.

“There’s a great balance between the design and neutrality of space,” the Italian designer told us of the new floor, between toasts with guests like actress Janet Montgomery, editors and Barneys’ own Mark Lee, Simon Doonan, Daniella Vitale, Tom Kalenderian, Tomoko Ogura and Charlotte Blechman. “The result is really well done. It’s a great success. Products really stand out—I’m happy to have my shoes here!”

Judging by the Sergio Rossi-shopping revelers, he’s not the only one happy to see his shoes on the sales floor. An extra incentive for shopping during the evening—as though anyone needed one—was a personalized sketch from Russo himself, given to anyone who purchased a pair. And for those who wanted their shoe imagery a little more, well, instantly, photographer Rachel Chandler was on hand to snap Instagram photos of footwear that, when tagged with #perfectpairs, were printed out on the spot.

“The collection is inspired by the idea of seduction,” Rossi explained of the new fall line. “I was interested in the idea of mixing textures, different skins and different animals, all together in one product. I hope it’s seductive to watch and seductive to wear and will make the woman happy.”

We had to know: where do you want a woman to go wearing Sergio Rossi shoes?

“Do I really have to say?” Russo responded coyly. “Wherever she wants to go.”
