Barneys New York

To call FashionIndie just a fashion blog would be like calling Madonna just a singer or Leonardo da Vinci just a painter. The site is perhaps best known for its spot-on sartorial solutions (catering to both ladies and gents, might we add), but it also makes its mark as a platform for all things beauty, pop culture, music and art. Depending on the day, you might find anything from a designer spotlight to the best macaron joint in New York.

Below, we caught up with the site’s editor-in-chief and fearless fashionista Samantha Lim, who dished on everything from her five-minute beauty secret to her favorite spring trends.

How would you describe your personal style?
My style is feminine and edgy. I love a nipped waist, a strong shoulder, a long line, incredible fabrics—anything silk, sheer or leather—and statement shoes.

What is your five-minute makeup secret?
If you’re getting home from work and need to head right out the door, I’m a true believer that everyone should be ready with their five-minute face. For me, it is some sea salt spray in the hair, bronzer on the cheek, a cat eye with black eyeliner, a brush up the brows and a lip gloss with a touch of red. Five minutes, and I’m ready for anything.

What is the most coveted item in your closet at the moment?
Prada has revolutionized the thigh-high, for me at least (from Barneys Madison Avenue). I’m currently obsessed with my black leather thigh-high stiletto boots. I wear them all the time—with pants, shorts or leggings. They are very comfortable and fierce.

Style icons—who’s on your list?
Not to sound typical, but I’m a huge fan of Kate Moss. I love the way she can throw on anything, from couture to a relaxed white t-shirt, and look impossibly chic. Carine Roitfeld also kills the French look. This super partial list of my style icons includes: Daphne Guinness, Elizabeth TaylorThe AvengersSimon Doonan (of course),  Diana VreelandLady Gaga

1. Maison Martin Margiela goat hair vest 2. Givenchy rock crystal bracelet; 3. Walter Steiger perforated ankle boot; 4. Rick Owens peplum back jacket; 5. Givenchy drop crotch pant

If you were accidentally locked in Barneys overnight, what would we find you wearing in the morning?
If I were locked in Barneys overnight, I would be after one thing: Givenchy. Give me bags, bracelets, jackets, dresses—there are about 218 pieces in the store, and I would figure out a way to shove one of everything in a snakeskin tote. That, plus a set of La Table Hermes in the dropped crotch of my pants. And this Margiela fur vest. And this Rick Owens jacket. Oh, and these Walter Steiger perforated ankle boots. And, let’s not even talk about what I would do on the jewelry floor…

Which trends are you most excited for this spring?
I’m loving all the sheer, pleated fabrics as seen at Chloé and Lanvin. I adore all of the bright digital prints as seen at Ann Demeulemeester, and all of the white-on-white. I love the new trend of the retro-style bra tops paired with high-waisted bottoms. It’s fabulous.
