Whether you seek sleek coils that transcend the workplace or desire waist-grazing locks suitable for any spring sabbatical, now is the time to amp up your traditional hair routine.
In honor of all things spring, we pulled celebrity hairstylist Sally Hershberger away from her post at her new Barneys New York salon to show us a few key takeaways that make all the difference in getting the most out of your mane. With products housed right here at Barneys and Hershberger’s seasoned techniques, we are providing you with the hair-winning tips that you deserve.
To showcase your next style obsession, we tapped some local creatives with varied tresses. From skater Briana King‘s bold curls and model Tyg Davison‘s ultra-blonde cut to Beya Likhari‘s long dark locks and influencer Jordun Love‘s coiled bob, we are certain you’ll have plenty of inspiration to keep your day-to-day looking fresh.
LOOK 1: BIG, BOLD CURLS
Attention ladies: Go big or go home! Dramatic, head-turning curls are a spring must-have, so embrace your natural curl pattern and amp up the volume. To start, Hershberger dampened Briana‘s hair with a daily conditioning remedy. After it was distributed throughout the hair, Briana’s curls were separated by small sections to help give her coils definition. Once this was completed, Hershberger used a hand-held drier on low heat while hand-tossing the curls to expand and sculpt the shape.
LOOK 2: MESSY CHIC
Sally’s signature hair is sexy messy-chic, and this platinum look is a refreshing new take on that. For this style, the hairstylist first parted off the front middle section and curled and pinned three medium-size segments. While the top remained pinned, a light spray of 24K Liquid Assets Daily Conditioning Remedy was sprayed throughout the remaining hair and blown dry using Sally’s signature large round brush to add volume and cause less breakage. Once dry, the hair was slightly bumped with a wand for an ever-so-soft wave. The remaining pins were let down and hand-teased to create a cool edge for Tyg‘s light lengths.
LOOK 3: WONDER WAVES
Although sleek hair is not going out of style any time soon, deep waves are making a spring appearance. To start, blow out freshly washed hair and move in a vertical motion with a large round brush to fully straighten. Next, Beya‘s hair was parted down the middle and then flatly wrapped around the barrel of a curling iron facing in. The curl was left for about seven seconds to set and then misted with a light spray to protect from the heat and give her mane a sultry shape.
LOOK 4: GLOSSY COILS
A shoulder-grazing bob amped with silky coils is beyond flattering. To achieve this look, Sally worked with the natural curl pattern of Jordun‘s locks by massaging in the Vanity Hair Shaping Balm from root to tip. Lastly, she shaped the bob by scrunching the ends in an upward motion until the hair was dry.
