We never know what to expect from style chameleon Russell Westbrook. But if there’s one thing we can say about the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard, it’s that he keeps it fresh.

In collaboration with luxury fragrance brand Byredo, Westbrook recently launched an eponymous unisex scent, featuring notes of bergamot gin accord, osmanthus, black violet, and tobacco leaves—a fresh, clean, but bold statement in a bottle.

At an intimate poolside dinner at The Sunset Tower Terrace in West Hollywood, about 40 guests came to celebrate the new fragrance, now exclusively sold at Barneys.

Among Westbrook’s friends and family, influencers like Erin Foster, Lisa Eisner, and Greg Chait mingled with designers and other guests, all congratulating the basketball player and co-host of the night, baller-turned-Byredo founder Ben Gorham.

As the sun settled into the gorgeous city skyline, it was prime time to go Off Topic.

The Window: Besides basketball, what would you say you’re the MVP of?
Russell Westbrook: If I could be MVP of something other than basketball, I’d be MVP of fashion.
The Window: Couldn’t agree more—enjoying this Ann Demeulemeester number you’ve got on this evening!

TW: How would you describe your style?
RW: My fashion changes a lot. I really don’t have one word to describe it, but I know it kind of varies depending on where I’m at, what I’m doing, or how I’m feeling.

The Window: If there were a fragrance inspired by you, what would it smell like?
Ben Gorham: That’s basically what Byredo is—it’s 22 small pieces of me that are constantly evolving. Really, my whole story is in that collection.

TW: We all know that scent and memory are closely linked—what smells bring you to your happy place?

BG: I think the smell of babies makes me think of my babies. It’s one of those things you can’t really replicate.

TW: Are there any fragrance notes that you absolutely hate?
BG: In my work, I’ve learned to appreciate smell, both good and bad. One of my favorite places and first scent memories is in India, which really has a combination of amazing smells and terrible stuff too. I’ve learned to really appreciate everything.

The Window: If there were a fragrance created just for you what would it smell like?
George Kotsiopoulos: Laughter!

TW: What does laughter smell like?
GK: I have no idea, but it would evoke happy, joyous times. I think that would be a wonderful scent for everyone to wear, don’t you think?

TW: It would be a best-seller.
GK: And then the second one would be money!

The Window: Scent and memory are closely linked—what smell takes you to a happy place?

Charlotte Blechman: My happy place is my children and my family, so smells that take me there also bring me back to my childhood. It’s floral, a very clean scent, and peaceful.

The Window: If there were a fragrance inspired by you, what would it smell like?
Shiva Rose: Probably sandalwood and rose. My name is Shiva Rose, and Shiva is sort of Indian, and India would be sandalwood.

The Window: Is there anything you would you say you’re an MVP of?
Nina Earl: I am the MVP of guilty pleasures, because I indulge in a lot of reality television and it’s very unfortunate. I watch it for like two seconds, I get hooked, and then that’s it.
