Calling all art-lovers. There’s no need to ferry your way to Randall’s Island this weekend for Frieze to see groundbreaking works of genius. Tomorrow, Barneys will unveil an unprecedented contemporary collection of its own.
Henzel Studio Collaborations, Volume #1, curated by Joakim Andreasson, is an exclusive collaboration between Swedish luxury art rugs manufacturer Henzel Studio and twelve prominent and influential contemporary artists, and launches in Chelsea Passage starting tomorrow.
For fifteen years, Henzel Studio’s founder Calle Henzel has broken down barriers between art and interiors with his experimental textiles, which incorporate a forward-thinking aesthetic with centuries-old techniques. Artists like Richard Prince, Mickalene Thomas, Helmut Lang and Scott Campbell (husband of Lake) have put their own spin on Henzel’s medium, and the result is a collection of truly one-of-a-kind textiles.
Regarding the process, Andreasson explained, “Free to disregard design movements and related principles and rules, the featured artists were invited to freely and seamlessly translate their work and artistic ethos into the media at hand, exploring shape, volume and finishings, where practicality was secondary to concept.”
We all knew that the rug can really tie a room together — but these rugs make the room.
