The worlds of fashion and dance frequently collide—a circuitous effect of one inspiring the other, one having a transformative effect on the other, and so forth. French heritage brand Repetto is a singular example of how the artistry of dance can be made practical for daily style—the maison is synonymous with luxurious ballet-slipper-inspired flats and sleek oxfords akin to tap shoes from vaudeville.

The Parisian label is now debuting the Transgression collection as a “return to the future,” which Gilles Assor, CEO Repetto Americas, says is the brand’s way of shifting the focus from being dance-oriented to more fashion-centric. Signature silhouettes are transformed and new styles introduced, including a tulle-adorned pump, satin and glitter-decked ballet flats, and a lace-up gingham slipper with an unexpected rhythm. Each exudes a fanciful feeling that’s fresh for spring.

Obsessed with bringing dance to the street, Assor says you can “expect the unexpected” from this new collection. He suggests wearing the new ballerina style with a thick elastic strap as an alternative to sneakers. “You can dance, ride a skateboard, or just chill with it without compromising your style,” he says.

To celebrate the exclusive Barneys capsule, we took it to the streets of Paris and filmed emerging model Polina Pavlikova as she explores her new hometown by foot—our own digital pas de deux with the brand, if you like. Watch as Pavlikova takes each beautiful shoe for a spin. Then, shop the collection below for your own dance-inspired moment.
