Reason To Celebrate: Meet The New Kenzo

Reenergized… Modern… Exuberant… Fun!

These are the words that pop up again and again when people talk about the effect Kenzo‘s new creative directors, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, are having on the storied brand.

Founded in Paris in 1970, Kenzo Takada’s namesake collection quickly made its mark among the fashion set, where it was known for its masterful mélange of bold colors and unexpected textures. One look at the clothes today will tell you that Leon and Lim have no interest in changing that. Instead, they’ve set out to reinvigorate—rather than reinvent—Takada’s trademark style.

“With our new collections, we hope that we have injected the brand with a youthful spirit and a sense of fun and cheekiness,” Leon recently told British Vogue. “But we also want to respect and preserve the traditions of the Kenzo house, such as the importance of prints and the sense of worldliness and travel that has been intrinsic to every collection in the history of Kenzo.”

As the founders of Opening Ceremony, Leon and Lim are already well-versed in all things fun, cheeky and cool. For a taste of how this whimsical spirit has already started to liven up the brand, watch their addictively wacky video below, which features Kate Foley, Kyleigh Kuhn, Derek Blasberg, Olivia Kim, Jen Brill, Andre, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Mariko Munro and Carlos Quirarte.
