We’re big Rag & Bone devotees here at Barneys New York, from our blazers down to our Newbury boots (more on these later)—but now, our Rag & Bone wardrobe is complete. Last night on the gorgeous rooftop of the NoMad Hotel, Barneys and the Rag & Bone designers, David Neville and Marcus Wainwright, celebrated the launch of the Pilot bag, the brand’s very first handbag.
“He hammered us about handbags for an hour and a half!” joked Wainwright of a lunch with Barneys CEO Mark Lee more than a year ago, which got the wheels turning on the debut bag. The Pilot features multiple pockets and a cross-body strap, and comes in several different colors. (Could it be the perfect Fashion Week bag?)
Julianne Moore, Rachel Zoe, Hilary Rhoda, Hanneli Mustaparta, and Barneys’ own Mark Lee, Daniella Vitale, Simon Doonan, Tomoko Ogura and Charlotte Blechman all came out to the dinner to toast the new bag, which got a very enthusiastic stamp of approval by co-host Linda Evangelista, who wore her own bright blue Pilot bag all evening.
Evangelista is a longtime friend of Wainwright and Neville; she even lives next door to Neville and his wife, Gucci Westman. “Our sons are BFFs,” she said. “We leave our doors open on the weekends and they just run back and forth between the two places!” But she’s also a devoted friend of the brand.
“I’ve always worn their clothes,” she told us. “I think the bag could be a hit like the Newbury boot. And who doesn’t have that boot?”
