Right after we find out what they’re wearing, we love to know what the stylish men and women about town are eating. Instagram provides a snapshot but for the full picture, we now turn to The New Potato. Sisters Danielle and Laura Kosann have built their site into a trove of food- and lifestyle-centric interviews with big-name chefs, actors, models, writers, and artists.

We spoke to the Danielle and Laura about the path that led them to The New Potato, their current “culinary crushes” and where we should be eating out in NYC.

What inspired you to start the blog?
We started as being the anti-foodie foodies. We felt like there was a gap in the market for a site that combined food with style, fashion and design in a chic editorial way. Rather than having tunnel vision with a site solely focused on food, we instead wanted to approach all the industries we loved through the lens of food. Everyone has to eat, right?

Who are your culinary style crushes?
Dominique Crenn, who is a top San Francisco chef, has the best style of any chef we’ve ever met. Marcus Samuelsson is also an eclectic, inspiring dresser. We just did a shoot with Michael Chernow (of The Meatball Shop) and his beautiful wife Donna (a pastry chef and model), so we’re crushing big time on them this week. Le Cirque’s Mauro Maccioni may be the most dapper restaurateur we’ve met.

What is your summer signature cocktail? Where can we order it?
A Moscow Mule. The Penny Drop at the Standard is the best twist on the idea in NYC. The Meatball Shop also has a great Mule. A glass of rosé on the Soho House roof also never gets old in the summer.

Which restaurants are on your must-dine list (besides Fred’s, of course!)?
We do love Freds! Barbuto is our absolute favorite in New York. The roast chicken is a must-try. Nomad is unbelievable. The pizza at Roberta’s is too good. We also love Red Rooster, The Dutch, Cafe Gitane, Cafe Cluny, L’Artusi, Café Sabarsky, Maison Premiere and Osteria Morini.

What is the best advice you have ever received?
Never do anything in business (or in life) you wouldn’t want on the front page of the newspaper the next day.

If you could dine with any Barneys designer, who would it be?
Probably Isabel Marant or Phoebe Philo. The lifestyle of amazing, chic French women is something that never fails to fascinate us. We’d take them for the seafood tower at Balthazar so we would have plenty of time to enjoy dinner, ply them with wine and casually slip interview questions into the mix wherever we could!

Where should we go in New York for the perfect A) Burger B) Mojito C) Savory snack D) Sundae E) Macaron?
For an old school burger we’ll go to JG Melon, but for the best new take, The Spotted Pig. We love to get mojitos at Cuba. For a savory snack, we’ll get French fries at Minetta Tavern and for sundaes, it has got to be Brooklyn Farmacy. Finally, with macarons, we stay tried and true at Ladurée.

If you were accidentally locked in Barneys overnight, what would we find you wearing in the morning?
