Today we recognize and celebrate women across the globe for their assertiveness, individuality, and boldness in striving for change. While we fight for gender equality every day, March 8, International Women’s Day, is set aside to honor those who continue to accelerate efforts in advancing women’s rights and opportunities. As the fashion industry gains momentum in moving toward inclusion and supporting female diversity, one designer is leading the pack.
Designer and feminist Prabal Gurung has taken the initiative to send a powerful message that speaks for all women. Gurung embodied this year’s International Women’s Day theme of Be Bold For Change as he presented his FW17 collection. Not only did he include diversity of different sized models in his runway casting choices, but he also featured t-shirts with female empowerment slogans that made for an impactful final walk, garnering a standing ovation from the fashion show audience. Barneys is proud to carry a selection of these t-shirts, available now for pre-order, with a portion of proceeds going to American Civil Liberties Union, Planned Parenthood, and Shikshya Foundation Nepal.
To kick off International Women’s Day, Barneys sat down with Prabal, model Candice Huffine and artist Diana Gordon to discuss the “collective power” women hold and how the “conversation of change starts with the conversation of inclusion.” With Huffine walking the runway in Prabal’s FW17 show and Gordon’s phenomenal background of artistry that’s been recognized by the likes of J.Lo and Beyoncé, these women made for an empowering roundtable discussion that was heartfelt and uplifting. Check out the video about, then head to Barneys to pick up one of the t-shirts and help to spread this empowering message.
