If there’s any truth to what Marilyn Monroe had to say about shoes (give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world), then all we can say is, world—watch out.
Last night’s Perfect Pairs fête at Barneys New York brought out some of the best-heeled girls—and guys—in Gotham. And while the opening of the 22,000-square-foot floor is certainly toast-worthy in its own right, we were also celebrating the tremendous success of the Perfect Pairs campaign. Since July, Barneys has collected more than $340,000 in donations to the Human Rights Campaign’s Americans For Marriage Equality Program.
“It’s a great cause, and it’s really amazing that Barneys is willing to take a stand,” designer Lisa Perry told The Window.
Perry was joined by fellow designers such as Pierre Hardy, Gianvito Rossi, Narciso Rodriguez, Nicholas Kirkwood and Tabitha Simmons, who looked particularly chic in a pair of her own Lara lace-up ankle boots.
Also in attendance were legendary beauty Brooke Shields, newlywed Margherita Missoni, New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and the Barneys New York ensemble of Mark Lee, Daniella Vitale, Dennis Freedman, Charlotte Blechman, Tom Kalendarian, Tomoko Ogura and Simon Doonan.
During dinner, guests were serenaded by Estelle, a self-confessed shoe addict; the British chanteuse claims to own more than 2,000 pairs. No, that’s not a typo—2,000 pairs. When asked whose shoes she comes to Barneys New York looking for, Alaïa, Narciso Rodriguez, Pierre Hardy, Martin Margiela and Nicholas Kirkwood were at the top of her list. Spoken like a true expert, right?
