Sipping rosé, relaxing beachfront, picnicking in the park—don’t you wish all your favorite summer pastimes could also benefit humanity? Thanks to Paddle For Pink, now one of them does—paddle boarding. This weekend, the event drew an A-list crowd to Sag Harbor for a paddle board race, swanky soiree, and charity auction, all benefitting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Founded by Maria Baum, Paddle For Pink, along with its wilder sister, Party For Pink, is now in its fourth year and has to date raised more than $4 million dollars for breast cancer research. Baum co-hosted this year’s race and party along with her husband Larry Baum, Richard and Lisa Perry, and Jackie and Bippy Siegal. The day began with participants racing either a three- or six-mile distance, and was finished with an evening party at Fairview on Mecox Bay in Bridgehampton.
This year, the two-part event raised a record $1.6 million for the BCRF and drew the likes of celebrity fitness guru Tracy Anderson, as well as Lena Dunham, former New York Giants football star Jason Sehorn, world-renowned big-wave surfer Laird Hamilton and his wife, former pro beach volleyball player Gabby Reese. A few other familiar faces like Gwyneth Paltrow, Jane Krakowski, and Matt Laurer were also on hand to lend their support. One of the highlights of the evening came as guests bid on custom paddle boards designed by Lisa Perry, Oprah Winfrey, Tory Burch, Bethenny Frankel, Donna Karan, La Mer, Aerin Lauder, Nicole Miller, Donald Robertson, and Rachel Zoe.

Lena Dunham powers through the three mile course. She shared that Laird Hamilton had to come to her rescue before the race was over. “He appeared as if from the ocean’s depths and guided me to the finish line,” she shared on Instagram. “I kept screaming, ‘Will I make it?!’ like we were in a disaster movie. He said, ‘Yes, Lena, we will.'”
