Now & Later: The Barneys Team on Transitioning a Wardrobe From Summer to Fall

Our excitement about fall now officially outweighs whatever lingering sadness there was about summer’s end. But until the over-the-knee boot weather really sets in, it’s all about the transition pieces. Below, the Barneys team shares which wardrobe staples will get them through this in-between season.

I plan to wear my Maison Martin Margiela textured two-piece suit into the fall. It will work just as well and I would hate to give up wearing it so soon.

We men need a lightweight pant that works for September and October. Incotex is a personal fave.

Key pieces from my closet will be my Isabel Marant denim shirt,  silk blazer from The RowCurrent/Elliott leather pants (yes, I wear them all year round ) and my Céline orange cashmere sweater.

My go-to will be my pair of Fendi chino trousers.

Barneys New York leather sleeveless dress, Chloé wide leg pants, Salvatore Piccolo button front shirts, and ICB printed dresses. And I’ll wear all of them with my new Narciso Rodriguez color-blocked cut-out booties that I just bought and won’t be removing from my feet all fall!

Skirts are perfect to transition from summer into fall. You can be flirty and bare legged in the summer, in fall add a little bit of attitude with socks and ankle boots (get some good height), and for winter throw on some black opaque tights. This Ohne Titel skirt is one of my favorites of the season. It’s lightweight and has a nice swing when you walk.

Malo makes the best lightweight knits that work year round—easy to pack at a moment’s notice and great for travel in every climate.
