May The Fourth Be With You: Independence Day the Barneys Way

Break out the red, white and blue! While most of our team will be attending the Paris shows over the holiday, they’ve promised to not let the Atlantic Ocean get in the way of celebrating America’s birthday with truly patriotic panache. Read about their plans (and outfits) below.

I plan to spend July 4th at my house in Long Island. I want to read, eat simple, good food and walk my dog on the beach. I wish I could spend the whole holiday in a pair of Orlebar Brown anniversary print bulldog swim trunks. I love all of them, especially the Jamaica, Monte Carlo, and deckchairs prints. They look great with the plain grey and white Orlebar Brown polo shirts. If I have to put on a pair of pants, it will either be an Acne or J Brand pair of jeans.

You know how the French love to celebrate America! I will hopefully be at my favorite restaurant Voltaire—shaved mushroom salad, steak tartare and a bottle of rosé. I have this incredible Céline dress in nude silk (e-mail sbenson@barneys.com to see if she can find you one!) with suede Gianvito Rossi shoes of the same color that I cannot wait to wear. I will need to put on some NARS Body Glow since I will be as pale as the dress!

The spring 2013 men’s fashion shows will have me in Paris on America’s birthday, as is generally the case. So I will be enjoying a cheeseburger at either Joe Allen or Coffee Shop. I will probably be wearing a crisp white Thom Browne oxford button down shirt and Levi’s Made and Crafted jeans with a pair of John Lobb William II boots with black double monk straps.

I will be in Paris but if I have some spare time, I will hunt down the Le Camion Qui Fume truck to get a double dose of home: burgers and food trucks. If I’m in a patriotic mood, I imagine I will wear the Current/Elliott star print jeans (a little slouchy) with my Golden Goose sneakers and a Band of Outsiders button-down.

I plan to be lounging on Shelter Island and eating lotuses. To wear? I love a Naked & Famous jean teamed with an espadrille. And on top, a Salvatore Piccolo chambray shirt.

I’m going to be spending the 4th watching fireworks with my kids and about five other families on a beach. Should be a blast! And I love a good theme, so I’ll be wearing my Current/Elliott jeans with white stars on them, along with a red Joie button front shirt. Very patriotic!

This 4th of July, I’ll be in Paris working—not such a bad place to be on a holiday. I travel often for business, so I don’t really think so much about the holidays. One thing for sure is that I need to pick up the new Barneys duffle when I get home. I could use a new chic canvas carry-on bag for summer; it’s time to retire my leather one.
