Meet Mandy Shadforth, the blogger behind Oracle Fox. Mandy’s story is set in Queensland, Australia—more specifically, a stretch of it known as the Sunshine Coast. This is a detail that’s hard to forget when cruising her site; each page benefits from that warm glow of coastal life.
She swims, she surfs, she paints and also has quite the stylish eye. Today on the Window, we’re excited to have the multi-talented Mandy reveal her blog’s backstory, current sources of inspiration and future travel plans.
What inspired you to start the blog?
Oracle Fox was the start of a soul searching journey for me. It began as a place where I could share my creativity and store inspiration images for my new style of paintings (super-realism), as well as photography.
Whose closet would you love to raid?
I would love to raid the closet of Emmanuelle Alt at French Vogue. She always seems to dress effortlessly and wears some of my favorite designers. It kills me every time!
What is the most coveted item in your closet?
A bowl of treasures in my wardrobe that includes Polaroids of romantic times, vintage and antique necklaces, tiny necklaces and rings, and a collection of other sentimental pieces of jewelry.
Which city has your favorite street style?
I love when I visit Sydney in my home country of Australia—the street style there is so diverse. Sydney girls love contemporary designers yet they always manage to wear things with a twist. I also have to say Gothenburg in Sweden! A little while ago, I went on a holiday to visit one of my best friend’s families in Gothenburg and although I didn’t make it to Stockholm, the street style was amazing. Stockholm is definitely next on my list!
Finish this sentence for us. If I didn’t work in fashion, I would be a… full-time visual artist, painting beautiful gigantic lifelike close-ups of girls at the beach. (A painting by Shadforth is pictured below.)
Which designer constantly impresses you?
I love the ambition of Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez from Proenza Schouler. Every season they grow from strength to strength with their ideas and inspirations. I have been impressed by their downtown-cool style, use of laser cut pieces and the variety of textures they incorporate. What impressed me most is that they gain inspiration from online sources such as Tumblr. In my opinion, this is so forward-thinking.
Vacations in the works? Where are you off to?
I have some top secret travel plans that I can’t divulge this minute, but it will take me to some beautiful exotic new places. Then there is Fashion Week. I’m going to New York and Paris towards the end of the year, which I am really looking forward to.
If you could lunch with any designer, who would it be? What are you dying to ask them?
I would love to have lunch with Hedi Slimane from Saint Laurent. I’d ask him about what he looks for when working with emerging avant-garde artists, whom he would like to work with next and why.
If you were accidentally locked in Barneys overnight, what would we find you wearing in the morning?
