Many NYC-dwellers argue that autumn is when the city is as its best. The sidewalks are no longer steaming, people stick around for the weekends, and a wardrobe full of cords, knits and tweets is waiting at the ready.
If there’s anyone who understands the glory of fall in the New York, it is the brothers Ovadia—Ariel and Shimon—who were raised in Brooklyn, though both now call Manhattan home. Ovadia & Sons, the menswear line that they founded together in 2010, channels that old-world side of city living that seems to perennially be in style. (Though, it’s worth pointing out that their look is particularly of the moment, as the duo recently won GQ’s title of Best New Menswear Designers in America.)
Before we show you the dashing looks from their fall lookbook and a sample of the styles carried exclusively to Barneys New York, we asked Ariel and Shimon about some of their favorite NYC haunts. Here’s their shortlist:
Destination to impress to out-of-towners: “A stroll in Central Park especially in the fall—nature right in the middle of the city.”
Watering hole: “We’ve been going to the Library at the Nomad Hotel lately. It has a great warm feel. It’s the perfect place to have a drink and conversation.”
Gotham’s new starring attraction: “We prefer old over new a lot of the time. Bemelmans Bar in the Carlyle Hotel is a great place to escape for a few hours; the setting almost takes you back in time.”
For retail therapy: “Barneys New York, of course. We’ve been shopping there since we were teenagers and its truly one of the best stores in the world! We collect antiques so we also enjoy going to flea markets. The Brooklyn Flea is a great place to walk around with a cup of coffee on a Sunday. Both the food and the vendors are great.”
