Anthony Thomas Melillo is one of those names you can be sure everyone in the fashion industry has heard, even if you haven’t (yet). Melillo is the man behind cult-favorite brand NOVA (whose designs earned him a 1999 CFDA nomination) and the relaunch of Generra in 2003—not to mention his own eponymous, highly coveted menswear line.
Like all his undertakings, this latest project—ATM Anthony Thomas Melillo, a collection of men’s and women’s tees available exclusively at Barneys New York—was years in the making and a true labor of love. (New York Magazine, Elle, GQ and W Magazine are already abuzz with the news.)
So what makes his T-shirts the best? Where do we start? From the insanely soft Peruvian cotton to the obsessively perfected fits to the cheeky ATM logo stamped under the arm (to match Melillo’s own tattoo), these just might be the last tees you ever buy. After all, there’s a reason Amanda Brooks dubbed him “The T-shirt Master.”
Below, join Amanda and Tony as they talk all about tees and personal style.
