London. Paris. Milan. And now, New York. It was almost impossible to take in every show of the Spring Summer ’16 Men’s Fashion Season, but fortunately our buyers were up to the challenge. After a month full of shows, presentations, and showroom visits, we gave the team the nearly impossible task of selecting their favorites of the SS16 collections. Scroll on to peruse their must-see picks, then head over to Barneys to snap a few of these inspired selects now, without having to wait for spring.

Haider Ackermann

Haider Ackermann

“Always a personal favorite, Haider Ackermann’s collection was a standout.  This season, the designer continued to demonstrate his masterful mixing of patterns, textures and proportions, this time with an Asian influence.  While some might find his penchant for ultra-layering a bit intimating, stand-out pieces like drop shoulder safari jackets, saturated indigo linen tunics, and stovepipe jeans embroidered with real gold thread, are effortless additions to anyone’s wardrobe.”

Hood By Air

Hood By Air

“The Spring 2016 collection from Shayne Oliver of Hood By Air continues to challenge the status quo and lend a new perspective to the whole gender fluidity movement of the season. His envelope-pushing collection dares you to take them on!”

Cifonelli

Cifonelli

“The Cifonelli show was my favorite of the season—it was the epitome of understated elegance, with silhouettes and color palettes that conveyed a sense of restrained power and supreme confidence, ideal for the Barneys man.”

Jay Bell, VP/DMM Men’s Designer Collections & Men’s Contemporary Sportswear

Gucci

JayBell

“Upon entering Gucci’s show, it was immediately clear that a rare fashion moment was imminent—gone were the plush codes of Tom Ford, the referential remedies of Frida Giannini. Instead, in sauntered the fresh ambiguity of Michele Alessandro. From the prudish to the overtly sexy, Gucci served it all. Executed with audacity and conviction, Gucci was a stand-out collection, one that’s changing the rules. Gucci’s boys will be boys—in granny’s pussy-bows.”

Melissa Gallagher, VP/DMM, Men’s Footwear and Accessories

Givenchy

Givenchy

Givenchy was definitely great visually, both for the roster of models in the show—Naomi Campbell to name one—and for the collection being presented. The men’s pieces were a mix of toughness and femininity, with details like printed tops with skirts worn over pants, which seemed new and exciting because of how it was styled.”

Lemaire

Lemaire

Lemaire was a personal favorite of mine this season. The term ‘palette-cleanser’ is often associated with Lemaire, but it certainly rings true. With so many brands becoming increasingly ‘busy,’ Lemaire stands apart with his elegant shapes and fresh color palette. It embodies modern, elegant men’s clothing.”

Filling Pieces

Filling Pieces

“Filling Pieces is new to Barneys for Fall 15, and from what we’ve seen so far, I was thoroughly impressed. Guillaume Philibert, the owner and creative director, enhances his silhouettes not only by applying new and unique materials, but also by creating a few new soles of his own. A lot of brands use the same Margom sole for their sneakers, and as a footwear buyer I truly appreciate newness, as soles are one of the most difficult parts of sneaker design.”

Sacai

Sacai

“At Sacai, the show was inspired by the music of Paradise Garage, the ‘it’ spot for dance music in the ‘80s, and the sort of hodgepodge eclectic dressing that was prevalent in my grunge ‘90s high school youth. Sometimes nostalgia can feel trite and stale, but Sacai’s SS16 collection was familiarity seen through a new lens. My favorite items were the Paradise Garage logo charitable t-shirt and sweatshirt, and a proceeds from these pieces will support the Gay Men’s Health Crisis. Let’s all dress up, dance, celebrate, and support what amazing work GMHC did – and continues to do – for the community in its 35 years of service!”

Le Gramme

Le Gramme

“We’ve followed fine jewelry brand Le Gramme for many seasons, and with the current big trends in men’s jewelry, we felt it was the right time to add the brand to our line-up. The simple, understated cuffs in sterling silver, as well as in both yellow and rose gold, are perfect for the Barneys man.”

Y-3

Y3

Y-3 was the highlight for me. Forever Yohji —inspiring and innovative. Black and white perfection, plus a few pops of color.”
