We can empathize with anyone who claims to suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics disorder, and so it was hardly a surprise to find a kindred spirit in Annie Atkinson, creator of She’s in the Glow.
The popular site (it turns out there are quite a few of us with a case of OCC) is where Annie, an ex-Chanel staffer, chronicles her compulsion—nay, passion—for “all things beauté.” And her steady stream of tips, product picks and musings on beauty has produced one sumptuous temptation of a blog.
We chatted with Annie about the inspiration behind She’s in the Glow, the secrets to a polished look and must-haves from Barneys.com.

What inspired you to start the blog?
About a year ago, I remember reading somewhere about why Gwyneth Paltrow started Goop. She found that people in her life were constantly asking her for recommendations like “Where should I stay when I visit London?” and “Who gives the best facials?” Apparently, Gwyneth realized that she wanted a place to collectively store all her tips, tricks and guidance. Well, this is why I started my beauty blog, She’s in the Glow. For years, friends, family, work colleagues and even people on the street (no joke) asked for my beauty advice. I wanted a place where I could express what is inspiring me every day.
Last year, I came up with the name ‘She’s in the Glow’ while hiking with a friend during my sister’s wedding weekend at San Ysidro Ranch. I chose this name because I feel that I am “in the know” when it comes to all things beauty.
What was the first beauty product you ever purchased?
In boarding school, a friend of mine had Chanel Mademoiselle and I was obsessed. I went to make my very first fragrance purchase and I ended up smelling Chanel Allure and immediately falling in love. Now I can’t smell Allure without being immediately taken back to my teens.
Who is your current manicure muse?
My friend and fellow beauty girl Hannah Bronfman always has the best nails. She always has some sort of ‘floating’ nail art with a different little picture on each of her nails. She must be really organized because it is always appropriated tied to whatever she is doing.
What are your favorites for fall A) lip color? B) nail color? C) beauty innovation?
For nails, I love Deborah Lippmann. I ran into her backstage once, so I asked what her favorite color of the season was. She introduced me to my new fave, Stronger, which is a blue holographic glitter situation. It’s really off the charts; I rocked it during NYFW.
My most recent discovery would be Terry de Gunzburg’s newly launched five fragrances and they are all amazing. How is that even possible? I have no clue. I think my favorite might have to be Parti Pris, which is a citrusy floral. Seriously, check them out.
What is the most coveted item in your closet?
My Balenciaga black leather jacket. I am obsessed with black leather and this jacket literally goes with everything and will never go out of style. It is part of my uniform.
What are your top five tips for a perfectly polished look?
1. For the face, I am all about a clean, radiant, dewy complexion. After your full skincare routine, I would suggest using a BB cream or foundation mixed in an illuminator. For the lip, you can go one of two ways: You can keep it clean and glossy or go with a classic red.
2. For the nails, stick to the classics. Go with a perfect nude, a red or a black, like Deborah Lippmann’s Fade to Black.
3. For shoes, keep it simple and keep it classic. I love Chanel two-tone ballet flats during the day. For the evening, test a pair of pointy pumps in black.
4. Classic skinny jeans with a mid to high rise and slightly cropped at the ankle are always super chic. I am obsessed with Acne’s Skin 5 jeans! They are the perfect fit and come in a ton of colors. I have five pairs.
5. Save your pennies and invest in one classic and amazing bag every year. I am talking Chanel and Céline.
If you were accidentally locked in Barneys, what would we find you wearing in the morning?
Wow, so this is my dream. Like, it’s literally my dream.

The Row makes the best and most classic leather pieces so I would definitely need to pick up their Rufkin skirt—perfect for fall. Sticking with the leather theme (you can never have enough), I would need a fresh pair of classic leather skinnies. I would obviously choose Balenciaga’s leggings, which are legit perfect.

With all of this black, the Saint Laurent mini Betty bag would work seamlessly with my fall uniform.

For something more whimsical, I love this printed maxi dress from Balenciaga for the pattern and fit. And I love a maxi that you can wear in the fall. Pair it with a black leather jacket and it’s the chicest.

I love this Chloé top and it would be a graphic pop mixed in with all of my black. But it’s fall, so I would need something cozy. I love the Proenza Schouler combination knit sweater—colorblocking and coziness perfection.
