Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen have the modern-day Midas touch when it comes to fashion—everything they create (and wear) is instantly coveted.
The Barneys shopper is already well-versed in the luxe minimalism of The Row, but they’re about to have a whole new set of Olsen ensembles to choose from, because Barneys CO-OP just introduced Elizabeth and James for spring—with exclusive pieces designed just for us.
But we’ll stop there, and the let the ladies speak for themselves. Without further ado, the moment we’ve all been waiting for—the Olsens on their new Elizabeth and James collection…
What was the inspiration behind the spring Elizabeth and James collection?
MK: Elizabeth and James is a playful balance of masculine and feminine. For spring, we strike the balance with bright tailored suiting, menswear-inspired shirting in delicate silks and prints, and touch on the pajama and athletic trends.
Tell us about the exclusive pieces you created for Barneys.
A: We created an exclusive capsule for Elizabeth and James’ introduction to Barneys by refreshing signature spring silhouettes in new color palettes and fabrics with a focus on mint, slipper pink and dark amber.
What are each of your favorite Barneys exclusives?
A: The mint suiting is chic for the office. I would pair it with a black silk button-down and a kitten heel.
MK: The floral pajamas—I’m really into print on print at the moment. This print was inspired by a vintage wallpaper we came across.
Who is the quintessential Elizabeth and James girl?
MK: The Elizabeth and James girl is conscious of the trends but does not let them rule her wardrobe. She mixes high with low, basic with intricate and invests in pieces that easily transition from day to night.
How does your style and taste show up in the collection?
A: Mary-Kate and I focus on the details of each garment and always try to incorporate something unique or unexpected. Whether it’s neon piping on a shirt or a dress that’s cut to slip off the shoulder, styling is in the design.
