When Kelly Klein first started collecting images over 20 years ago for her book ‘Pools,’ the initial goal was to inspire her in the building of her own pool. Over two decades and several books later—including the sequel, ‘Pools: Reflections,’ fêted at Barneys New York last week in Beverly Hills and last night on Madison Avenue—and her own pool in Florida is finally finished.

“There are some remarkable pools in the book and in the world,” Klein told The Window, “though I haven’t necessarily swum in them! My own pool in Florida is quite special, though. I just finished it a few months ago.”

‘Pools: Reflections’ is packed with gorgeous aquatic images by the likes of Robert Mapplethorpe and Bruce Weber, the latter of whom was present as co-host for the New York event along with Nan Bush, Aerin Lauder and Dennis Freedman. Guests like Calvin Klein, Carolyn Murphy, Fern Mallis and Barneys’ own Simon Doonan, Mark Lee, Daniella Vitale, Charlotte Blechman and Tomoko Ogura came out to support Klein and have their copies signed before decamping to the Beatrice Inn for an intimate private dinner hosted by Barneys and Lauder. (Even Bottega Veneta designer Tomas Maier, who held his own book signing event last night, rushed over afterward to toast Klein.)

Last week on the West Coast, Lisa Eisner took on hosting duties at the luncheon, which included guests like Jacqui Getti, Liberty Ross, Jessica Joffe, Tony Melillo, Catherine Keener, Pam Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor.

If all this talk of pools had revelers ready for a dip, we had to know which—of all the images in the book—Klein would prefer for a swim.

“I like the trough swimming pools that are inspired by horse drinking troughs. They’re like cement boxes in the ground, and that’s really cool,” she said. “But there’s also a pool in there that’s pink—it’s painted pink and it has blue water. It’s pretty cool.”
