In the ever-changing and always-evolving world of fashion, any brand that’s been holding its own for nearly a century and a half must be doing something right. And when it comes to Loewe (pronounced lew-AY-vay, for the uninitiated), what they’re doing right keeps getting better and better. Considered one of the world’s original luxury houses since its founding in Madrid back in 1872, it’s not the brand’s history that has us talking about them today, but rather its future.
Loewe has taken a new path since naming designer Jonathan Anderson as creative director in 2013. Described by Women’s Wear Daily as “a star on the rise,” Anderson became a wunderkind of the fashion world when he premiered his eponymous line in London. And as we mark the arrival of his first collections for both men and women from Loewe, it’s clear to see that he has brought his own unique sense of whimsical elegance to the brand while simultaneously carrying on its legacy of craftsmanship and refinement.
Drawing inspiration from the Mediterranean coast, Anderson’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection is an ambitious undertaking, including clothing, shoes, and accessories. The real standouts, though, are the handbags–no surprise from a brand built upon the quality of its leathergoods. And the star that’s shining brightest is the Puzzle bag, a uniquely geometric shape that is both structured and soft and that lends itself to being toted in five different ways ranging from hobo to a cross-body sling. It’s not only one of the season’s chicest bags, but also one of the most versatile.
