Kyle Allen is a star on the rise. Raised in northern California, the Los Angeles transplant has performed ballet and contemporary dance for the last 12 years, but with two major new roles, the acclaimed dancer is transitioning from stage to screen. In his first feature film, One Night, out this year, he plays Andy, the introverted male lead contemplating love after reconnecting with a childhood friend. This winter, he co-stars alongside Aaron Paul and Michelle Monaghan in The Way, a Hulu drama series that follows a couple as they choose between the life they live and the life they want to live.
You would think for being such an active man, it would be routine to model fall’s must-have men’s activewear—think again. “It was totally new for me,” admits the actor. “Fortunately, the talent of everyone on set—from the photographer to the stylists to the directors—was so inspiring. I could feed off of it. It just clicked.” Allen claims he’s not into clothing. “Most of my wardrobe is from my time on set,” he says. “I’m really pretty casual, but on the plus side, my clothes are mostly from people who know what they’re doing in terms of style.” We predict a change as the premieres, red-carpet appearances, and award-show ceremonies start rolling in.
When he’s not acting, Allen keeps busy training under the direction of his coach, Lauren Patrice Nadler. Having started dancing relatively late in the game, he is making up for lost time learning what his peers already know, along with new routines, as well. But that’s just another part of Allen’s hustle—one that is clearly paying off. “I’d eventually like to make an impact in the entertainment industry,” says Allen. “I’m not that good at math or science, so this is where I’m the most useful. It’s what I love to do.”
