What’s more captivating than the grace and discipline of ballroom dancing? School kids ballroom dancing, which is the magic of Dancing Classrooms. Started in 1994 by ballroom champion Pierre Dulaine, the program engages students in the joy and teamwork of social dance, creating mutually respectful and effective learning environments. Dancing Classrooms Global works its magic on over 50,000 students a year.
“Dancing is about connections—to our friends, to our families, to our neighbors. It is one of the most expressive ways we celebrate and communicate our cultures and communities,” Dulaine told us. “We hope to inspire children through dance to do well, to respect one another, to be proud. This program is about more than dance; it is about teaching children to take a bow.”
After seeing the success of the program with his own daughter, Barneys’ Digital Creative Director envisioned bringing the Fall ’15 girls’ and boys‘ collections to life on the dance floor. Under the guidance of Dancing Classroom’s National Program Director Rodney Lopez and film director Anna Palma, a group of children both familiar to the program and new to it spent a day learning dance moves and laughing as the cameras rolled—all while wearing new season threads from Paul Smith, Milly, Mademoiselle Charlotte, Jimmy Bravo, and more.
