Italian Tradition Meets Japanese Innovation: Camoshita At Barneys New York

Time-tested tradition combined with a modern vision—that’s the essence of cult Japanese label Camoshita. Taking the techniques of Italian tailoring and giving them a Japanese spin, the menswear collection made its debut at Pitti Uomo in 2007. The brains behind it all? Tokyo-born Yasuto Kamoshita, the creative director of United Arrows.

With an eye for details, a sensitivity to history and insight into the needs of a modern man, Yasuto has executed a line of elegantly tailored sportswear that strikes that perfect balance between luxury and utility.

“Yasuto Kamoshita’s concept embodies the best of all the sophisticated qualities that differentiate Japanese menswear style from all others,” says Barneys General Merchandise Manager and EVP Tom Kalenderian. “What I love most about Camoshita is the way Yasuto respects the history of menswear, without letting history overtake his designs—he takes the best qualities and luxuries from the past and interprets them with a modern approach.”

Both a “scientist and historian,” as Tom puts it, there is no doubt that Yasuto has taken menswear to new levels. “Designers like Yasuto Kamoshita are finding themselves in the epicenter of what young, style-seeking men consider chic today,” says Tom. Case in point: The style-seeking men at GQ and Selectism are already fans.
