Whether he’s helping his team secure a championship or stepping out in self-styled looks from designers like Rick Owens and Fear of God, Iman Shumpert turns heads on and off the court with a bold personal style all his own. When he and his wife, Teyana Taylor, first attended New York Fashion Week a few seasons ago, he caught the attention of the fashion industry for wearing outfits ranging from a Hood by Air jacket with no shirt underneath to a crop top. Vogue even called him New York Fashion Week’s biggest risk-taker. For Shumpert, the love of personal expression is genuine and dates back well before he first garnered sartorial attention with his ‘90s high-top-fade hairstyle. In high school, he cut and repurposed clothing in creative ways and took notes from his mother, who taught fashion design.
On episode seven of The Barneys Podcast, Shumpert sits down at a Los Angeles studio with Barneys’ Jackie Kim to discuss his style evolution and how it reflects his personal growth. He also talks about his other off-the-court passion: music. The longtime rapper just released an EP this spring called Substance Abuse.
