How The Barney Team Eats & Drinks Their Way Through The Holidays

Now that our shopping is all wrapped up (well, almost), it’s time to turn our attention to more important matters—like food and alcohol! Below, we ask the Barneys team what their favorite holiday dishes and cocktails are…


Pumpkin pie is usually my weakness all through the holidays, but this season I am going to indulge on Charlotte Neuville’s incredible Electric Holiday cakes, which are available for special order at Chelsea Passage at Madison Avenue (call 212 833 2426). They make incredible gifts and party conversation starters.

My favorite holiday drink is a Kir Royale because of its color, and I often add pepper berries for decoration.

Ozoni—a traditional Japanese soup prepared on New Year’s Day. My mother is from the Kansai region of Japan where they use white miso as the base. Other ingredients include fish stock, mochi (rice cake), satoimo (taro root), daikon (white radish) and mitsuba (Japanese parsley). She tops off the soup with fragrant yuzu (a citrus fruit) peels, which to me smell and taste like Japan.

When it comes to cocktails, I’m a purist: tequila year round! During the holidays, I can be swayed by any sort of champagne cocktail, but my favorite recipe remains Don Julio 1942 tequila, straight up.

Nothing feels more festive than a kir royale: one part creme de casis, five parts champagne.
