Ever since Katie Holmes & Jeanne Yang founded Holmes & Yang in 2009, the label has made a name for itself by creating understated, ladylike classics season after season. Their Fall 2013 collection, which just arrived at Barneys New York, is no exception. From a floor-sweeping skirt to the perfect moto jacket, these pieces have definitely attained must-have status in our book.
To celebrate the launch of their new collection, Holmes & Yang created a DIY coloring book, and we recruited some of our favorite creative geniuses, like Barneys Creative Ambassador Simon Doonan, blogger Tina Craig of Snob Essentials, and Jeanne Yang herself, to color outside the lines. Below, Simon and Tina weigh in on their creations…
* * *
“I love the Holmes and Yang cape. It catapulted my brain onto a Simone De Beauvoir surrealist landscape. Think De Chirico, think Dali… with a pet pig.”
- Simon Doonan
“The classic moto jacket, reworked by Holmes & Yang in butter-soft suede, is an essential for any streetwise wardrobe. Cropped to accent the waist and topped with extra-long zipper pulls, I love wearing this biker jacket with unexpected pieces, like a soft cocktail dress for the ultimate juxtaposition. But for my illustration, I was inspired by the working mom—a woman like Jeanne, Katie, and myself—so I chose other essentials. These are simple staples that go the distance, from school runs to errands to cocktails and beyond.
The result: a timeless look that transcends age and trends. Black cigarette pants and Holmes & Yang’s quintessential camisole welcome enduring accessories, like Saint Laurent’s luxe aviators and Manolo Blahnik’s BB pumps. An Hermès Kelly mini and natural gray diamond necklace, a la Sharon Khazzam, are the perfect finishing touches to polish up a casual yet killer outfit.
P.S. Excuse the crinkled paper—my son wanted to see what I was doing and I had to fight him off! He said “Is that me? I don’t look like that!”
- Tina Craig
